TAWS Seminar
On 28 July 2004, Transas held a seminar on the Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems.
The purpose of the seminar was to cover the most recent information on the subject, current TAWS application experience in the Russian Federation and to discuss the problems arising in the process.
The seminar was attended by representatives of Russia’s leading airlines, aircraft operators and Civil Aviation schools.
The following reports were given:
- Practical and Legislative Basis for Introducing TAWS in Russia and Abroad (E.N.Lobachev, Federal Service of Transport Supervision)
- TAWS as an Instrument for Preventing Incidents Caused by the Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT)” (D.M.Dryagin, Transas)
- Use of TAWS in the International Flights Including Flights to Mountain Airfields” (V.I.Golovskoy, Volga-Dnepr Airlines)
- Databases Used by TAWS: Main Requirements, Characteristics and Development Tendencies. TAWS Database Maintaining and Updating at the Airlines (S.A.Vysochin, Transas)
- TAWS Operation Training for Flight Personnel (B.V.Koshelev, Aviation Training Centre of Moscow Aviation Institute).
Considerable interest was aroused by the demonstration of TAWS operation in the flight simulator environment, as well as by the presentation of DEM (Digital Elevation Model) processing and check technologies used in the TAWS.
